Gunja

Botanical Source : Seeds and Roots of the plant Abrus precatorius Linn. belonging to family- Leguminosae and subfamily- Fabaceae.

Common Names : Eng.- Indian liquorice root; Hindi- Ghumghachi.

Sanskrit Synonyms :  Krushnala, Raktaphalika, Angaar-valli, Uchchata, Kaakachincha.

Chemical Constituents

Seeds- albuminous substance (abrine and abralin); Root- glycrryzin and resin.

Rasa : Tikta, Kashaya

Guna : Teekshna, Laghu, Ruksha

Veerya : Ushna

Vipaaka : Katu

Doshaghnata : Vaatakaphahara.
